Art Direction // Design // Illustration
I was approached by a client who needed a range of stationery for their birthday – a save the date, invitation and thank you card. First, we sat down and talked about the details of the design direction. This included the look, feel and colours, as well as looking at some examples the client had already seen online and liked the style of.
This is the final invitation card design.
I used the same typefaces in all the designs, as well as keeping a similar colour palette to create a cohesive look for all three designs. I also illustrated a little map to go along the route description, so everyone would find the location easily.
For the save the date postcards, my client and I went through several design rounds to really find the right feel for the cards. My client wanted something edgy while being elegant and having summer vibes. Another request was for the design to use a similar pastel colour palette like the cake buffet they ordered for the birthday celebrations.
We ended up going with a photographic approach that screams celebration, shows confidence and that the client isn't afraid of turning thirty. We then pivoted to a typographic approach for the invitation cards and a combination of type and illustration for the thank you cards.
